Okay, this will be step one when setting up your Aspen canvas grade pass back. I always like to tell teachers to start with their Aspen page as that will make the transition over to Canvas a little bit easier.
So this is obviously a great time at the start of the second semester to be able to set up with the, with my secondary people, if you have a new set of classes. But even if you are elementary or middle or my high school people that have year-long classes, you can still go about this and manipulate it to where you're not gonna lose anything.
But if you are at your homepage, the very first thing you're gonna want to do is you're gonna want to click the grade book tab.
Okay? On the grade book tab, you're gonna be able to see these different indicators. Down the left-hand side, what you're looking for is where it says average grade scale. We wanna make sure that that's set on Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale. Now you can see my box is grayed out because I am under a friend's Aspen, and I cannot manipulate his grade book in that manner, so that's why it's gray out for me. But for you, you should be able to click that dropdown and select Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale. We wanna make sure the very first step is average grades. Average is grade scale. It's gotta be set to uniform grading scale.
Okay? From there, once we make sure that that is set up correctly in this specific class, we wanna click on the categories box.
Okay? Now, I tell teachers to write down exactly what their categories are. If you don't have any categories, write 'em down as you are creating them. The reason being is because we are going to have to put these two categories into our canvas sites. We wanna know exactly how they're written because it's gotta be verbatim, letter for letter, word for word, exactly into our canvas.
So for him it says daily projects. I also wanna write down that Daily's worth 50%, projects are worth 50%.
Okay? From here, I'm gonna click on the left-hand side categories, and then this is just one last double check that I have teachers do to make sure that the default grade scale is set to Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale.
If this is blank, when you click categories, then your Aspen is not set up correctly to communicate with Canvas. It has to say Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale.
Okay? Then one last check over here to make sure the percentages are correct. Once I've done this for every class, so I'm gonna click class list again, and I'm gonna go to his next freshman seminar, and I'm gonna make sure it says Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale.
I'm gonna check categories 50%. 50%. I'm gonna click categories again, he's got the Tennessee Uniform Grading Scale for both categories and both 50%.
He is in good shape for both of those classes. I have to double-check this for every single class and make sure that they are all set up.
Once I know that is good in every single class, then I'm ready to go to Canvas, which will be covered in video number two.
