This video will explain how to use student annotation submissions in Canvas. This is a new feature for Canvas where students can annotate on top of a PDF and submit it for teacher review. To use this feature, go to Assignments, click on "Add Assignment." We'll give the assignment a name and directions. Now, under Submission Type, we're going to check "Student Annotation" and upload the file that we want to use. So, I'm going to use a math page. The file is uploaded, and I'm going to save and publish.

Now, I want to look at this in Student View to see how the students will experience this task. So, I'm going to click on Student View in the top right corner and click "Start Assignment." Now, I see the PDF here, and I can actually make it a little bit bigger.

The first question asks me to show three times five by drawing equal groups of five. I can select from these tools to annotate on top. I'm going to select the little paintbrush here. I can choose the color that I want to use and the thickness of the line. Okay, so I'm going to start to draw these equal groups. I'm using the trackpad; you could also use an external mouse.

You see, you can draw right on there. You can also annotate using text, and when you're finished, you can submit the assignment. We will take a look at what this looks like from the teacher side in SpeedGrader. I'm going to leave Student View and go to SpeedGrader, and you can see that from SpeedGrader, I can see the annotations that the student left on the assignment.
