John Davidson: For our district, Canvas is a tool that works all the way down from our youngest learners, our kindergarteners, all the way up to our seniors in high school. It’s a tool that when we look at our young learners, is highly intuitive. It has the features that they need to collaborate and communicate. When we look all the way up to some of our oldest learners, it has the rich features that they’re looking for. It has the media components. It has the real-time collaborations. It really prepares them for tools that they’re going to use when they leave our school district.
Janet Park: As a teacher, Canvas gives me a lot of flexibility to be able to communicate with the students as well as parents. With Canvas, parents literally almost have a window into their child’s classroom. They can see all the wonderful things they are doing.
Scott Sanborn: One of the neat things about parents customizing their own applications is they can choose how they want to get stuff. For me, I set it up to get text messages, e-mail messages. I know parents who put it on their Facebook timeline and Twitter feed. However you get information, it’s great because it comes to you and how you want it.
Josh Louis: It’s difficult for me to separate when I use Canvas and when I don’t. Every day, students turn something in Canvas. Students and I joke when I do bring paper I have to explain what it is. That’s important because digital literacy with the new standards that are coming out and just where the students are headed, it’s huge. It’s a game changer and Canvas allows us to deliver content seamlessly.
Geoff Schmit: I use Canvas in lots of different ways, in different classes and outside of classes. It is a huge time saver. One of my favorite aspects of Canvas is I can assign labs or projects and students can submit them via Canvas and then I can use SpeedGrader to provide really detailed feedback. Student feedback is really positive. I think what they like most is they can go to one place to get all their information and they don’t actually even have to go to that one place. Notifications are huge. I have a lot of students who immediately get text messages or e-mails every time I make an announcement.
John David: Canvas is a tool that allows us to provide innovative and unique learning opportunities for all of our students in a personalized way that prepares them for life beyond District 203.
