This video will show you how to get content from a previous course to a new course. There are two ways to export content from a course and move it to a current course. The first is to use the Commons. So, I'm going to go to a course that I want to export. I'll go to Summer Course 3, and from here, I can go to Settings and I'm going to select "Share to Commons." From here, there will be a couple of items that I am required to answer. One of those is: Who can use this resource? I'm going to select "Only me" because I'm just importing it into my course; it's not something that I'm ready to share. If I was ready to share with my team or other people in Knox County, I could select "All of Knox County Schools." You may have groups that you can select, which would include your grade level or your school. If you don't have any groups to select, please contact an EdTech connector or your EdTech liaisons, and we can set up some groups for you.

I am also required to give it a title. I'll keep it as "Summer 21 Course 3" so that I know what I've exported. I have to give it a description, choose an image, and select a grade band, and I'm going to click "Share." Now, this course, after it finishes uploading, will live in the Commons. To import this course into my live course, I'm going to select "Import/Download," and then I can choose from my other courses which one I want to upload it to.

Another way that you can export this course is to export the content to a file and import that content back into a new course. So, I'm going to go to the same course, and I'm going to again select Settings. This time, instead of selecting "Share to Commons," I'm going to select "Export Course Content." I'm going to create a new export. This file will be a .imscc file that will not open on your computer; however, it can be imported into a Canvas course. In order to import this into your new Canvas course, you'll go into Settings and select "Import Course Content," and you will see the file that you just saved as an option for you to import into your new course. If you have any trouble with importing or exporting content, please see an EdTech connector in your building or email edtechliaisons@knoxschools.org.
