The Dashboard is the first thing you'll see when you log in to Canvas. It contains course cards for recent and upcoming courses, or those you've marked as favorites. Additionally, you'll find a list of items to complete, upcoming activities, recent feedback on graded work, and a panel to view grades. Instructors see average grades for their courses, while students see their current average if the gradebook is set up to calculate grades.

You can toggle between course cards and recent activity in all courses. Clicking "See More" or "See Less" expands or collapses these lists. You can designate favorite courses by clicking "Courses" in the Global Navigation Menu, then "All Courses," and selecting the star next to the course name. You can remove a course from favorites by clicking the star again. Once favorites are selected, they appear on the Dashboard.

As of Spring 2017, users cannot reorder courses on their dashboards, but this feature is under review. Course cards can be customized by selecting a different color or entering a custom HEX code. You can also give each course a nickname for easier identification. Instructors can add images to course cards through the course settings.

Course cards indicate the types of activities in a course, such as announcements, assignments, and discussions. For more information, consult Canvas Community guides available from the "Help" screen on Canvas's navigation menu. If you'd like to learn about another Canvas feature, send requests to edtechliaisons@knoxschools.org.
