About
Knox County Schools is committed to providing high-quality early intervention and educational services to young children with disabilities, ages 3 to 5, through our Special Education Preschool programming. Our goal is to support each child's development by offering individualized services that build the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Special education preschool services are designed to meet the unique learning needs of children who qualify under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Services may include specialized instruction, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other supports as determined by the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
Programs are offered in a variety of settings, including initerant special education services, blended preschool classrooms, blended general education classrooms such as Voluntary PreK, Title 1 PreK and Head Start, and community-based environments, and homebound services when necessary. Each setting is designed to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences while promoting social, emotional, communication, and academic growth.
Knox County Schools values strong partnerships with families and encourages ongoing communication and collaboration to ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive by five.
