You will learn about Chromebooks used with Knox County students. Chromebooks have been issued to all students in Knox County since the 2020-2021 school year. Devices were purchased with ESSER funds so that each student in every K-12 Knox County school would have access to a personal device. A Chromebook is a device that is designed to facilitate work that is done online in the cloud. Chromebooks use the Google Chrome operating system rather than Windows or the Mac OS.

Because Chromebooks rely on remote servers through the internet, they don't have the same capabilities as a traditional laptop. However, they also don't require the same hardware and can be smaller and lighter than a typical laptop. Chromebooks are perfect for accessing learning that is housed in Canvas and other online locations through seamless web access, online research, and access to a variety of information. Digital resources, such as textbooks and websites, along with access to interactive services on the web that provide practice and assessment, can support students in learning.

Additionally, the Chromebook can be used at home by families to send and receive digital communications with the teacher or school. Consider how you might incorporate the possibilities of Chromebook utilization in your teaching and learning.
