Google Search Tips
- “ ” : Use quotation marks for an exact match – Recipe for “Boston cream pie”
- - : Use a minus sign in front of words to exclude (Boolean NOT) – Pizza near me -Domino's
- ~ : Use a tilde in front of words for which you will accept a synonym – Types of ~lawyers (attorneys, barristers, etc.)
- * : Add in place of an unknown or variable word – Money can't buy happiness but it can buy *
- OR : Use OR for results of both query terms (Boolean OR) – Cloud storage OR Google Drive OR Microsoft OneDrive
- Site: : Add Site: to the end of a query to search within a single site. Must provide the site URL – Cheetah photos site:nationalgeographic.com
- AROUND(n) : Add AROUND(n) between terms to find results where those terms are located within (n) words of each other – “Social media” AROUND(4) “school-age children” will give results where those terms are close and likely related to eachother.
