What are Snaps?

A Snap in Hapara Highlights is a record of a student’s browsing activity. It contains a picture of the student’s screen, along with other helpful information.

Snaps improve communication and encourage collaboration, reflection and critical thinking. For example, you could send a student a Snap with a positive message about their online choices or progress.

Students could also add a Snap to their semester portfolio to document progress, or they could have a conversation about a Snap during a parent conference. Another way to use Snaps is to create a Google Form and ask students to reflect on their thought process or decision-making related to a Snap.

Where you can Take Snaps

Activity Viewer:

First, you can take Snaps from any of the three windows in the Activity Viewer tab in Highlights:

  • Class Activity – Websites students in the class currently have open in their browsers
  • Unique Activity – Websites that exactly one student has open
  • Collaboration – Websites two or more students have open at the same time

To take a Snap from the windows in Activity Viewer:

1. Hover your cursor over the student's activity.

2. Click the Camera Icon to instantly take a Snap.

What a Snap Includes

Snaps are so much more than screenshots! They also include:

  • The student's name
  • The date and time the Snap was taken
  • Whether the Snap related to a single student (Unique Activity) or a group of students (Collaboration)
  • The website address the student or group viewed
  • A timeline of the student's browsing activity

Where Snaps are Stored

You can later view the saved screenshots in the Snaps Tab, which is located at the top of your screen in Highlights.

A Snap is available for seven days, but there's also an option to email it to yourself if you need to keep it longer.

To email yourself a copy:

1. Click the Snaps tab at the top of your page.

2. Next, click on the Snap you want to view.

3. Then click Email me a Copy in the top right-hand corner of the Snap window.

How to Send Students Feedback with Snaps

You can also easily share formative feedback with a student. For example, you could send a positive message with a Snap if a student did a great job researching reliable resources. Or you could ask a student to use the Snap to reflect on their online progress:

To send formative feedback:

1. Click the Snaps tab at the top of your page.
