Hello, in this quick video, we're gonna look at how to schedule a reoccurring filter session or a reoccurring focus session. And this has been a request that a lot of our teachers in the district have asked for, so I feel like this is very pertinent information.
So, I'm here under, in My Hapara, under my classes. Our teachers will have a list of their classes that they're currently enrolled in here. I'm just gonna click on my test class to give you guys an example of how this would look. So, I think the initially some of the confusion is, um, that these buttons up here are, like, immediate creations.
So, for example, if I click share links, this is if I want to immediately share links outright this second with students, right? So, I would fill out all this information and click "share links," and that would go out there immediately. Same thing for guided browsing, right? If I want to set up a focus right this second, then this is exactly what I would do, right? I would fill this out, click start session, and boom, it would get going.
That's gonna look a little bit different if I go to schedule. Schedule is where I am planning things out in advance. And this is where it's gonna allow me to create, um, reoccurring sessions. So, by initially clicking on schedule, if you've not set up anything in your schedule, then this is gonna look just like this, completely blank. Um, and it may be a little bit confusing in terms of where to click. You're gonna want to go to schedule session.
And then which one of these do we want to do? Are we trying to set up a focus session or a filter session? Or are we trying to set up a future sharing of links to occur later on? We'll come back to that one in just a second. But right now I'm gonna click on guided browsing. And now I get this slightly different view from what we were just looking at. Now I can kind of plan out or schedule, um, any templates that I've created, a focus session, or a filter session.
So, I'm gonna click on filter. So again, this is websites that we do not want the students to go to. I want to apply this to the whole class. I want this to be for a duration of 90 minutes. And I do not want them to go to esbina.com. Click that plus sign. Any website that's gonna be entered in here will be listed below. We'll only get a total up to 50.
So you can see it changed it to 49 left. And now this is where we're looking for. Instead of "start," we're gonna click "schedule." And now I have to give this a name. I'm gonna name it "No ESPN." Okay, I want this to start today. I want this start time to be right at 10 a.m. It's already gonna pre-calculate that out because I selected 90 minutes on the previous screen. So it's gonna end at 11:30. Here's what teachers have been asking for: Repeat this session. So I'm gonna click repeat this session.
And now I get to choose what days of the week I want this to occur on. So, I'm gonna say Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And I want to, I have to select when I want this repeat to end. So here is the kicker. Let's say that I wanted this to end in the middle of January, right? January 13th. You're gonna see that it's gonna pop up, "cannot select more than four weeks in advance."
So, yes, we have the ability to set up reoccurring sessions, but they can't be longer than four weeks out in advance as of right now. Take us one, two, three, four weeks to December 23rd. So now I can click "schedule." And there you go, "No ESPN." This is going to kick on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the next four weeks at 10 a.m., and it's going to last for a duration of 90 minutes. And it's telling you that it's a filter session of one link.
Okay, so that's a filter session example. Let me give you another example. I'm going to click "schedule session," share links. Okay, I want to share a link with them, cnn.com. And this session is going to be for the whole class. Do you want to schedule the session for later? Okay, I can do this tomorrow. Schedule session. Okay. So there's another example of scheduling a session. I didn't give it a title, but that's just going to share that link out.
Last example here, guided browsing, focus session. Again, this is where I want them to go, where I want them to be focused in on. Okay. Alright. Allow full access. No. Yep. I'm gonna click schedule again. Okay. Give it a name. Repeat this session. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. This repeats for four weeks. Okay. Schedule.
So if I click on this week, I can- I'll give you an example of this is what's happening today. 10 a.m. Canvas focus session, 60 minutes. During that same exact time, "No ESPN." These are going to click on and go automatically.
So this is where I want to operate. If I'm planning things out in advance, I want to operate under the schedule tab and click the schedule session and operate under this, um, option list. If I'm planning things out in advance, reminder, these buttons up here are for immediate, um, use. Right? I'm sharing links now. I'm creating a guided session now. Schedule is if I'm planning things out in advance, then I can say- and again, I can only push things out for four weeks at a time.
Not ideal, but better than what we previously had. If you have any questions, please contact us at edtechliaisons@knoxschools.org. Thank you, guys.
